After all the months of dieting and grueling work outs why show up with no clue how to pose? In order to train for a contest you have to be ready in every aspect. And that means posing as well.  Posing is an art that not even some pro level athletes have mastered.  It is not as easy as it looks folks.  Posing is only mastered based on the amount of time you put into it.

Tons of people these days will train for a competition and not focus on posing until the last week or even last day.  Everyone believes it is something you can pick up right away, and some believe it takes time, consistency, and poise.  Each pose has to be hit with confidence and precision. Needless to say, these things can not be put together hours or days before a show.  Over the years Glen has competed in over 20 bodybuilding competitions in over 5 organizations on local, national, and world-wide levels. Such organizations include the USBF, INBF, NGA, NPA, NPC, UIBBN WORLD, and NABBA.  Glen is also a USBF judge who knows just what to look for in flawless posing.  Glen has also won numerous "Best Poser" awards to go along with this tremendous criteria he has built for himself making him one of the best candidates to teach a posing clinic.  Let Glen Pacyna's posing clinics show you exactly how to hit your poses and present your flawless physique you have worked so hard on for the past few months.

Quarter Turns
Quarter turns are your first judged round of posing. This is where the judges will get to look at your physique alone, and against everyone in your line-up.  At this point in time four quarter turns are performed on stage where the judging panel will look at you front the front, left, back, and right sides before you start your mandatory poses.  The quarter turns are just as, if not more important than your mandatories. This is the first chance you will have to get the judges to look at you.  As a judge myself nothing stands out more in the first round of posing than someone who knows what they're doing.  Your first impression is key.  It is here where confidence is gained.  Standing tall, smiling, and composure are small things that stand out in the line-up.  Next up are the mandatory poses!  This is where you seem some people fall of the page or not exactly up to par yet. The order of the mandatories is determined by the organization itself. In some organizations you may only be required to do one side pose instead of both, or you may have to do both. Prior knowledge on the organization your competing in will help to know ahead of time.

Mandatory Poses
The first mandatory pose is your front double bicep.  Now don't be mistaken like some people and think that the judges are only looking at the size of your biceps compared to everyone else. They are looking into your frame in general and how your biceps tie in with your shoulders, and how your general pose looks all together but to be under the impression that the judging panel is only looking at your biceps is not a good way to start off the show.  Your next pose is your front lat spread.  Again, its not about who's lats are bigger. Your goal here is to fill your chest cavity with air, giving the illusion that your the biggest one on stage.  During your front poses, your feet position is critical.  After these two front poses the judges will call for a quarter turn right.  Now it's time to present your side poses, being your chest and tricep development.  The key to both of these poses is your leg and foot placement.  Squatting lower is crucial because now you will be able to put stress on your legs and show off your glute-hamstring tie in.  Proper rotation in order to show all the judges along the panel your physique is important too.  After these two poses you will be put through another quarter turn. Now your back is to the audience.  From this position you will perform your rear double bicep and rear lat spread. From the back your balance is a key factor as well.  Many athletes have came close to falling over.  After these two poses you will then go through your next quarter turn for your additional side poses unless you have done your favorite side poses.  After this quarter turn you will then face the front again in your final quarter turn for your abdominal & thigh and most muscular poses.  Although there are a variety of most muscular poses, you want to chose the one that compliments your physique best.

Night Time Posing Routines
Unless your competing on a national or world level it is very unlikely that your night time posing routine is being judged.  The only way this would be possible on an armature level is if there was a tie in your pre-judging class earlier on.  It does not always happen but if it does the promoter should inform you during the athletes meeting just before the night show starts.

Needless to say, even if your not being judged it is always nice to go out there with an idea of what your going to do for the amount of time your allowed on stage.  If your a beginner chances are you will most likely go out and hit a sequence of mandatory poses to a theme of the music you have picked out. As a world natural competitor my routine in the night show is important to me and I work very hard on a routine.  When I first started out i went down that road of a beginner.  I started off with random songs and hit a pose to the beat of the music.  Now there is only one person I go to for my custom routine music.  Todd Ganci is a former bodybuilder himself with a profound talent of mixing music and love for the sport of bodybuilding.  Todd can give you choreographed routine music he has already made that 1,000's of his clients have used over the years or he can mix something from scratch with anything you could think of.  Contact Todd at his site:

When coming up with your night time routine you want to remember to display your physique to it's best.  A combination of poses featuring your strong points would be a good recommendation.  Also choosing a song that compliments your physique is key too.  It's your time to shine and you have put in the months of dieting and training so this is your time to do what ever you want.  Be sure to contact Glen for private posing sessions.  Don't walk into your competition with out all your ammunition!
